Mercedes-Benz W221 engine start problem (2006)

A car came to our car service with a problem starting the engine.

During the first run, it was possible to determine that the problem was scrolling the starter

First of all, we removed the starter, checked the flywheel and found that the part was heavily worn (picture 1). Further, when removing the gearbox, a leak was found in the crankshaft oil seal (picture 2).

After troubleshooting, we replaced the crankshaft oil seal and flywheel with new ones. We started the engines, checked everything again and handed over the already serviceable car to the happy owner.

All work took 2 days:

  • The starter was removed,
  • The cause of the breakdown was identified - worn flywheel,
  • Removed the box,
  • Another failure was identified - crankshaft oil seal leakage,
  • Replaced worn flywheel and crankshaft oil seal,
  • Put the box back in.

Result of two days of work:

A bright and memorable car is back on the road.
